Random Acts of Kindness --- Jon and Emily Phillips and Family

Random Acts Of Kindness . . . The Phillips Family

The second story in a series of stories of Random Acts Of Kindness.....

Emily and Jon Phillips and their 5 children decided last December that they wanted to do something special to give back to a family this Christmas. Just a few years ago, the Phillips family found themselves in a job loss situation during the holidays. They were blessed to have their church, family, and friends help them through the holidays and they wanted to do something special to “pay it forward” to another family in need.
The Phillilps famly began a "Giving Jar" last Christmas. “All year long we have saved our change and put it in the jar. If we find change in the car or laying around the house we also put in the giving jar.” said Emily. “We have 5 kids, and last week they put part of their own allowance into the jar. We were able to save several hundred dollars!”

The Phillilps family emailed the school counselors at Kemp Elementary asking if there was a family in need this Christmas. Through Kemp, they found out about a family who has two small children. The father recently lost his job (a story similar to the Phillips’ own story several years ago).

Emily, Jon and their kids went shopping with money they had saved from the “giving jar”. They were able to purchase a gift card for groceries, toys and clothes for the two children. They wrapped all the gifts and delivered them to the counselors at Kemp Elementary.

“It felt good to feel the love of our friends and strangers when we were struggling financially. That is one of the reasons we wanted to help someone else this Christmas season. It was our turn to give back!” said Emily. “And even though we do not know who they are and they will never know who we are, we know we have put a smile on someone's face! It has made us all feel good to serve this family and to teach our children that Christmas is about giving not receiving.”

Random Acts Of Kindness....Helping Others During The Holidays - Jeannette McDaniel

Paying It Forward.....Helping Others During The Holidays

Helping others year-round is something that is wonderful to do, but it seems that especially at the holidays, helping children have a Merry Christmas tugs at the hearts of many.

Jeannette McDaniel, Paulding County Middle School teacher, reached out to her neighborhood in early December to let them know about one of her students. The 8th grader had recently moved to Georgia to live with her 18 year old sister, her sister’s boyfriend and their 16 month old son. The boyfriend and 18 year old are barely able to pay rent, so providing Christmas gifts for their baby and for the 8th grade sister they just took in, looked like an impossible task.

Jeannette's neighbors rushed to the rescue! Jeannette was overwhelmed with offers by neighbors to help. Clothing for the toddler and for the 8th grader, along with toys, diapers, gift certificates, food, monetary donations and more, began rolling in at Jeannette’s house for this family. Before she knew it, Jeannette had two full car-loads of items for them.
Jeannette said “My car is loaded and my heart is overflowing with thankfulness once again from the love and generosity of my neighbors”. Thanks to many wonderful, caring people, this young family will have a Merrier Christmas than they expected.
